A winter city that actually delivers
The mountains right behind the city are just unreal. Nordkette is easy to reach and the skiing is top notch. Old Town is cute and walkable too. Loved every bit of it.
Skiing above a city - still can't get over it
Took the cable car up to Nordkette and honestly could not believe I was looking down at a city from the ski slopes. The snow conditions were brilliant in January and gear rental was straightforward and reasonably priced. The Old Town below is gorgeous and there are plenty of cosy spots to warm up after a day on the mountain. Kaiserschmarrn at a little café near the Golden Roof was the perfect end to a ski day.
Perfect Christmas market stop
The market on Maria-Theresien-Strasse was so festive and not nearly as overwhelming as some bigger European markets. Great glühwein, nice local crafts, and the mountain backdrop made every photo look like a postcard. Easy to walk everywhere from the Old Town too.
Old Town is seriously beautiful
The Golden Roof is one of those landmarks that looks even better in person. The whole Old Town area is really compact and easy to walk around, which I appreciated. Lots of good food options nearby - tried Tiroler Gröstl and it was hearty and delicious. People were friendly and the whole place felt relaxed without being boring.
Great base for skiing and sightseeing
What surprised me most was how easy it is to go from city streets to ski slopes in under 20 minutes. The Bergisel ski jump is worth a visit for the views alone even if jumping is not your thing. Food is hearty and filling - exactly what you want after a cold day outdoors.
Mountains, architecture, good food - what more do you want
Innsbruck just works as a city break. The Altstadt is beautiful, the mountains are right there, and getting around is easy. Tried Käsespätzle at a local restaurant and it was comfort food at its absolute best. The Bergisel area gave us some of the best views of the city. A really solid trip all round.
